Welcome to Sugar Hill Farm!

Rooted in Tradition, Growing for Tomorrow

Sugar Hill Farm is proud to be a sixth generation farm that strives to continue our family tradition of farming the land and providing customers with quality products. We produce high quality hay, maple syrup, and pumpkins that are sold direct to customers. Every fall, we open up our farm for agri-tourism and welcome customers to join us for a u-pick pumpkin patch and pumpkin smash events.

Products

We offer our award-winning hay and pure NY maple syrup year-round. Our homegrown pumpkins, decorative cornstalks, gourds and our agri-tourism opportunities are only available in the fall!

Superior Hay

Our hay has earned the prestigious award of FIRST PLACE at the New York State Fair in 2022, 2024, and 2025! This is a blind judging contest that uses nutrient analysis, smell, weight, and cleanliness of bale to determine the winner.

Our hay consists of a timothy/orchard grass mix and is available as small square bales or round bales. Delivery available throughout the Northeast states! Our small squares are often ordered by customers to feed horses, sheep, or goats in hay nets, stalls, or at shows. Small squares are two string, 45-50 pound bales and are available for pickup or delivery by loads of 30-250. Round bales are typically ordered by customers who need to feed multiple horses on pasture and require a tractor to move. Our round bales are 4ftx4ft and secured with twine (not net wrap). Round bales are available for pickup or delivery by loads of 2-15.

Delicious Maple Syrup

All our syrup is produced from sap collected in our central NY sugarbush. Once gathered, filtered, and concentrated, the sap begins boiling on our wood fired evaporator. Our traditional 2ft x 6ft Lapierre evaporator adds a rich flavor to the syrup whether you like to smother pancakes, french toast, ice cream, or meat with it! We offer several grades of syrup ranging from the amber (delicate flavor) to the very dark (rich flavor). Syrup is available year round on our honor system farmstand!

The Farm: History and Tradition

The property was previously known as the Goodrich Dairy Farm. Dale Goodrich, born in 1943, grew up milking cows and producing syrup. After attending the Cornell Agriculture program, Dale returned to the family farm and took over for his father, in hopes of carrying on the family tradition. He became involved in various agricultural organizations. He was well-known and loved by many. Under his leadership, the farm received the prestigious 15-year Super Milk award.

Dale had no children but made a lasting impression on his nephew from California, Edward Geier. Edward, a military veteran and a graduate in Dairy Science, had long dreamed of continuing the farming legacy. Edward learned from Dale and officially assumed control of the farm in 2008 with the support of his wife Lori. He led the farm to earn the 20 and 25-year Super Milk awards before making the hard decision to sell the cows in 2019.

Today, the day-to-day operations of Sugar Hill Farm are managed by Ed and Anna Geier. They represent the fifth generation to farm the land and the farm has celebrated a century under their leadership. Ed is the only son of Lori and Edward Geier and took over the farm in 2019 when the cows were sold and the farm transitioned to crop production.

At just 24 years old, Ed has been responsible for starting the FFA chapter at Sherburne- Earlville High School, winning first place at the NYS FFA maple competition (2 years), and winning first place for first cutting small squares in the NYS Fair (3 years). He is an active member of the volunteer fire department, and runs the farm in addition to working for the Town of Sherburne.

He shared his passion and taught his middle school sweetheart, Anna, how to run almost everything on the farm. Anna fell in love with the lifestyle and him, and both have created a home in the 1810 farmhouse on the property. Anna helps Ed with maple sap collection, raking, tedding, and unloading hay, and manages the farmstand. Anna graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in May 2025 and works locally with special education children.

At Sugar Hill Farm, our goal is to continue the tradition of family farms. You can support our dreams by buying local grown produce, visiting and supporting family farms, and staying connected to where your food comes from! We hope to see you on the farm!

Sincerely,

Sugar Hill Farm Family
